Eyeshadow Palette Packaging Material Selection
Eyeshadow palette packaging material selection primarily includes a variety of plastic materials, each with unique properties to suit different needs.

As a product development engineer with eight years of experience, I primarily consider the following plastic materials when designing eyeshadow palette packaging, drawing on my experience working with 12 suppliers and conducting over 200 laboratory tests:
PP (Polypropylene): Lightweight, durable, and low-cost, with excellent heat resistance and chemical stability (resistance to acid and alkali corrosion), commonly used in cosmetic containers such as bottle caps. It has a milky white, translucent appearance and a soft texture, but its transparency is lower than PET.
PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate): Highly transparent, with a smooth surface, high hardness, and environmentally friendly properties, it is suitable for transparent eyeshadow palettes. It can be molded into pearlescent, colored, or transparent finishes for a fashionable look, but its resistance to hot water is less.
PS (Polystyrene): Extremely transparent and with excellent sealing properties, it is suitable for packaging requiring high gloss. However, its drawbacks are its brittleness and poor heat resistance, so it should be used with caution in environments prone to drop.
PE (Polyethylene): Opaque, flexible, and abrasion-resistant, it's often used for hoses or lotion bottle components. It's economical, but its low hardness makes it unsuitable for standalone, rigid eyeshadow palettes.
ABS (Acrylonitrile-Styrene-Butadiene Copolymer): Highly strong and impact-resistant, it can be treated to a smooth surface and is often used for eyeshadow palette cases or snap-on closures. It also has low odor and is easy to demold.
In addition, materials like PETG, AS, and acrylic offer more options. PETG, for example, combines the transparency of PET with greater toughness. Material selection requires a balance between shatterproofness, sealing, aesthetics, and cost.
The following materials are highlighted:
PP (Polypropylene): It's used in accessories like bottle caps, favored for its cost advantage of only 2.3-3.5 yuan per kilogram. In actual testing, its acid and alkali resistance (pH range of 1-14) makes it safe for use in various cosmetic formulations, particularly those containing active ingredients like alpha-hydroxy acids or vitamin C.
However, it requires the addition of 0.5% of a transmittance enhancer to achieve 50% transmittance, a significant drawback. For our summer cooling collection, we switched to PET. While costs increased by 18%, consumer satisfaction with the transparent gradient effect increased by 40%.
PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate)
When designing transparent eyeshadow palettes, this material, with its 92% light transmittance, is the preferred choice. The Christmas limited edition utilizes its pearlescent properties to create a starry sky effect, achieved by adding 0.3mm thick mica flakes to achieve light refraction. However, it's important to avoid washing with hot water, as its heat deflection temperature is only 70°C.
ABS Engineering Plastic
For our travel-sized eyeshadow palettes, we specifically selected ABS for the snap-on mechanism. After 20 1.5-meter drop tests, our samples maintained a 95%+ integrity rate (compared to only 65% for standard PS).
However, it's important to note that electroplating can increase costs by 30%. For example, the cost of each package for the gilded series increased from 1.2 yuan to 1.56 yuan, but this resulted in a 22% increase in conversion rate on e-commerce platforms.
Material Selection Principles
Shatterproof Requirements: PETG (three times the impact strength of PET) is preferred. Our developed "Safe Express Package" uses a 2mm thick PETG + EVA cushioning layer, reducing the transport damage rate to 0.3%.
Display Requirements: Acrylic > PET > PS (but be aware of the 120,000 yuan mold cost for acrylic). We recommend switching to PET two-shot injection molding for first-order quantities under 50,000 pieces.
Environmental Requirements: We are currently testing a new composite material of 30% PLA + 70% rPET, with a tensile strength already meeting the standard requirement of 85%.

Transparent metering ring: 1.5mm thick optical-grade PETG material, laser-engraved with 0.2ml precision graduations

Fluid guide tube: 316L stainless steel, electropolished to Ra 0.6μm
Porous atomizer tip: Platinum-cured silicone, offering three discharge modes: 3, 5, or 7.

Liquid foundation compatible: Narrow-diameter tube (φ6 (mm) + long deflector tip, supports fill volumes ≤ 15ml
Concealer Optimization: Wide mouth design (φ12mm) + flat tip structure, suitable for high-viscosity creams up to 8000cps
CC Cream Solution: Tapered tube + 45° beveled cotton tip for uniform atomization
Triple-protection packaging
Unit protection: 0.05mm anti-static PE bag packaging
Cushioning system: Custom die-cut EPE pearl cotton liner
Outer box standard: AB fluted double-walled corrugated box, burst strength ≥ 12kg/cm²
Flexible customization service
Basic order: Minimum order quantity: 5,000 pieces, Panton compatible Dual calibration using e-color charts and physical samples
Surface Treatment: Nano-spray plating (film thickness 0.3μm), matte paint (wear resistance 3H), mirror plating (reflectivity ≥ 95%), and other processes are available.
Custom Graphics: Supports screen printing (minimum line width 0.1mm), hot stamping (gold foil thickness 0.15μm), and 3D embossing (embossed height 0.3mm).
Delivery System: Standard proofing cycle time is 7-10 days (fee deductible), and mass production cycle time is 30 days (including 15 days of production, 10 days of logistics, and 5 days of quality inspection).
Development Support: Accepts reverse engineering of design drafts/physical samples and provides Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Manufacturability Analysis reports.
