I. Main types and material properties


  • Color box packaging

Material: cardboard or micro corrugated board as the base material, the inner layer can be compounded with PE film to enhance moisture resistance.


Parameters:

Thickness: corrugated cardboard commonly used three-layer or five-layer structure, core paper thickness 0.2-0.5mm.

Printing process: support high-precision offset printing, hot stamping (resolution ≥ 300dpi), adapting gradient, matte and other effects.

Application: High-end cosmetic outer boxes, such as gift sets, limited edition product packaging.


  • Vacuum Aluminized Paper

Characteristics: Aluminized surface layer (thickness of about 0.02-0.03mm) gives a metallic luster, both paper flexibility and aluminum barrier 23.

Parameters:

Quantity of substrate: 60-120g/㎡, oxygen permeability of aluminized layer ≤ 0.5cm³/(m²-day).

Applicable printing: gravure printing + UV lamination, friction resistance up to grade 4 or above.

Uses: perfume labels, lipstick tube body decoration, etc.


  • Paper-plastic-aluminum composite packaging

Structure: cardboard (75%) + polyethylene (20%) + aluminum foil (5%), six-layer lamination (PE/paper/PE/aluminum foil/glue/PE).

Performance:

Barrier: Oxygen transmission rate ≤ 0.1cm³/(m²-day), UV blocking rate ≥ 99%.

Temperature resistance: -20℃~80℃, suitable for emulsion, essence and other liquid products.

VI. Cosmetics paper packaging design process


1. Surface treatment process


  • Laminating process

The transparent plastic film (glossy film / matte film) is laminated to the paper surface by hot pressing, which enhances the glossiness and abrasion resistance, and has significant moisture-proof performance, and is suitable for high-end gift box packaging.

The glossy film enhances the brightness, while the matte film creates a low-profile texture, and the process can be selected according to the brand's tone.


  • UV and reverse UV process

Conventional UV:Partially or fully coated with UV varnish to form a high-gloss or matte effect, with abrasion resistance of more than 4 levels, commonly used for LOGO or pattern highlighting.

Reverse UV:Through the contrast between light oil and matte oil, the visual contrast between mirror and frosted is realized, enhancing the sense of packaging hierarchy.


  • Foil stamping process

Hot stamping/cold stamping technology can present metallic luster (gold/silver/radium), resolution ≥300dpi, suitable for brand logo or border decoration.

The thickness of the hot stamping layer is about 0.02mm, the friction resistance is better than ordinary printing, suitable for high value-added products.


  • Embossing and Screen Printing

Embossing:The surface of the paper is embossed by a steel mold, forming a concave-convex texture (e.g., leather grain, cloth grain), which is rich in tactility and non-slip.

Silk-screen printing:Using silk-screen printing to realize three-dimensional relief effect, the ink thickness can reach 0.1mm, which is suitable for the tactile reinforcement of logos or patterns.


2. Structural design process


  • Die-cutting indentation

Adopt steel knife die to cut the shaped contour (such as hollow window, curved corners) accurately, the error is ≤0.5mm, suitable for personalized box design.

The depth of the crease line is 1/3-1/2 of the thickness of the cardboard, which ensures the crease is clear and not easy to break when folding.


  • Convex/concave process

Three-dimensional embossing (e.g. brand logo, pattern) is formed on the paper surface by mold pressure, with a height of 0.2-1.5mm, enhancing the visual and tactile impact.

Braille embossing can meet the needs of barrier-free design and conform to the usage scenarios of special groups.


  • Multi-layer composite structure

Paper-plastic-aluminum composite technology (paper+PE+aluminum foil) to achieve full barrier protection, oxygen transmission rate ≤ 0.1cm³/(m²-day), suitable for serum and other products with high active ingredients.

3D relief UV printing:superimposed white primer, color pattern and varnish layer to achieve three-dimensional relief effect with a resolution of 1200dpi, replacing traditional mold embossing.
